Jaswant's controversial book "Jinnah: India, Partition, Independence" and his remarks in an interview describing Jinnah as "secular" and "a great man" who had been demonized in India, placed him in the line of fire of BJP bosses.

Announcing the ouster, party chief Rajnath Singh said, "I had issued a statement on Tuesday dissociating the party from the book. Today, I put the matter up to the parliamentary board which decided to end his primary membership."
